Number Portability

Starting on July 5, 2008, a user may switch company without having to change its telephone number. This measure promoted further equal competence between licensees, and facilitated the entrance of new players into the market in network convergence.

Number portability has accelerated convergence since it facilitates introducing voice, data and video service offerings.

Today there are over 900,000 numbers that have been carried over. The importance of this measure lies in the fact that operators now have a competition stimulus to provide better services and rates, and to make an effort in trying to retain their current users, as well as attracting new ones.
