Interconnection Rates

One of the most important regulatory functions has to do with interconnection rates. In June 2009, COFETEL decided to submit to Public Consultation, the resolution that issues the guidelines that define Cost Models to be used in resolving interconnection rates that apply to the services of interconnection between licensees of public telecommunication networks.

The purpose of the Public Consultation was to establish an impartial, inclusive and transparent link between the Regulatory Body and the industry’s players. COFETEL will analyze the opinions received on this matter to develop a regulatory tool based on fairness and transparency and that follows the best regulatory practices in telecommunications.

This will allow the objectives of the Fundamental Technical Plan of Interconnection and Interoperability to be reached, as it establishes the correct, precise and impartial interconnection regulations and facilitates the use of public telecommunication networks, promotes the entrance into the market of efficient competitors, incorporates new technologies and services, strengthens the contracting parties’ legal security, and contributes to developing healthy competition between licensees.
