The Federal Telecommunications Commission (COFETEL) originates from the Federal Telecommunications Act published in the Official Gazette on June 7, 1995. COFETEL is the outcome of the April 11, 2006 reforms, of the aforementioned Federal Telecommunications Act, and of the Federal Radio and Television Act; it was consolidated as an administrative body separate from the Ministry of Communications and Transportation. COFETEL enjoys technical, operative, expense and management independence, and is in charge of regulating, promoting and supervising the efficient development and ample social coverage of telecommunications and radio broadcasting in Mexico, with full autonomy in decision issuing.
